World Cup 2022: What A Loss To Ghana Might Mean For Nigeria As A Whole

Image
World Cup 2022: What A Loss To Ghana Might Mean For Nigeria As A Whole     The second leg of the much anticipated Jollof Derby between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana will be played today at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja. Recall that the two rival countries are jostling it out for a ticket to the World Cup in Qatar later this year.  The first leg of the encounter, which went down on Friday at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi, ended in an uninspiring goalless draw, and whilst a score draw will be enough for Ghana to secure their qualification, Nigeria's hope of being a part of the tournament hinges on an outright win in the capital today. Just like the first leg, the mind game had already started with the reports that there was a black out in the stadium when the Ghanian teams were training on the pitch. However, we should be aware that there are consequences if Nigeria, "Africa's Giant," fails to qualify for the World Cup.   1. The Fede

Ede Polytechnic Suspends Student Union.

Image
Ede Polytechnic Suspends Student Union.   Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State suspended the activities of the student union due to violence on campus, not long after the ban was lifted by ISEC on the 22nd of March. This action was taken by the management of the school when a fight broke out between two presidential aspirants during their campaign on the 24th of March. The two students and their supporters, who were armed, clashed with each other. One student was seen injuring another with a cutlass, while the other was seen with a gun.   The Dean of Student Affairs issued a memo to the school management that the student union needed to be suspended due to the violence of the students. They hereby suspended the student union until further notice, and the students involved in the fight have been arrested. The president of the student union, Adekunle Jimoh, stated that the management of the school did not involve the union when the decision to suspend the election was taken. He stated t

Oh, Monday!

Image
Oh, Monday. Your cue to make hay,  Perturbed about the day to day, Aiming for the way, The other day wasn’t great, Do you want to cry for aid? But trusting goes a long way. Reminded not to stray , Truth lies beneath the lie on this day, You realise it’s too late. Has the giant hawk lays its nest,  So it’s for the day to hunt for its best. Like it’s a test, Not a day to rest , Subtle love put to test. The survival of the fittest. The black clouds may rain hell, But morning bears hope. Hope is the new day, New day like everyday, Every day like Monday, Regards to the day, Oh, Monday , Buenas Noches.                                                                     Kennie_mhie

WE ARE ALL BROKEN

Image
We: Are all broken into brittle blazing portions, Scraps of our leftovers lurch in torments; At the doom hung at the heaven of our heart, Pieces of our torn souls stitched up with time, With time they will stop bleeding like a beggar's sore. I: Was shattered by the falsetto of the humans, Their rhythmical voices became my muse, My shore stranded because of starvations, I needed a hand to pull me out of my puddles,  But I was scratched with claws crawling out of a friend's hands. You: Used to be crushed along with your traumas, You can arise like a Phoenix from Ashes, yes! I see HOPE surging inside of your essence, You can heal from these old scars scrawled on your soul and spirit. ©DECHOSEN1 POET: OWOEYE TAIWO BISOLA

Help! I'm addicted to my phone

Image
In the 21st century, there is an addiction that seems to be prevalent, especially with the influx of technological development. It is not often recognized as an addiction, but scientific research has proven that the same component is released during every addictive indulgence. It is called the neurotransmitter dopamine released into the nucleus accumbens. Neuroscientists call that region of the brain the pleasure center. If phone usage gives you acute pleasure, you might be caught up in this web. The latin meaning of addiction, which is "enslaved by" or "bound by", further emphasizes how several people are addicted to their phones unknowingly. Patiently observe your response to the following questions:  Do you often have trouble completing tasks at work, school or home?  Do people complain bitterly about your absent mindedness in social gatherings?  Do you feel anxious or restless when your phone is inaccessible? This is referred to as Nomaphobia: "the fear o

Self Actualization (Episode 1)

Image
EP 1 Hello friend!  Have you ever wondered what the future holds? Or have you ever wondered what to become in the next few years? Some people still haven't figured this out yet as they are confused about life. Yes, life can be funny and tricky but do we have to live our lives by letting it rule and direct us? No! That's why there's a need for personal growth and development which is SELF ACTUALIZATION.  According to Abraham Maslow, a human psychologist, self actualization is the process of becoming "everything you are capable of becoming". Your motivation is based on your ability to seek fulfillment and change through personal growth. It is true that individuals strive for higher needs when the lower needs have been fulfilled or satisfied. These lower needs are the basic needs we all desire as humans and they are; food, shelter and clothing. Once this is done, we aim for something higher, like searching for love, thinking about achievements and feeling accomplis

Theft at Fajuyi Hall

It was a peaceful evening until the shouts of "Olè....Olè...Olè..." filled the air as angry students marched towards the school's Students' Union building. It was a tense situation that didn't look like it would be calm anytime soon. On the 11th of March, around 8:30 pm, a guy who was at the Faj campus hostel, allegedly made a fake transfer which led to an instant uproar from the hall residents. It was added that he did not just stop there but also proceeded to request for change. The victim of this unfortunate fraud was not having it and called on other guys who took up the matter almost immediately and made attempts to beat him up. An exco of the Students' Union pleaded with the enraged students and tried convincing them to take him to the  Students' Union building. As he was being paraded, a particular anonymous guy kept screaming, "Finally, you have been caught!". It was gathered from a witness, who chose to be identified as Yomi, that the s

What Makes 'Great Ife' Great?

Image
Sitting amidst the crowd of restless students as the Vice Chancellor delivered his speech, taking random notes on my android phone, I was beginning to feel restless myself when the VC uttered the words that caught my attention and would echo in my ears for days afterwards.  It was on Tuesday, the 8th of March, 2022, at the inauguration ceremony of the Great Ife Student Union (GISU). The Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede had launched into a lecture about what makes Great Ife great and telling the audience about how he spent seven years studying a six-year course, he concluded that that experience is one of the things that makes Great Ife great. I froze, not believing my ears. I turned to ask my neighbor if he heard what I heard and he replied in the affirmative. For a few seconds, I wondered if the VC was being sarcastic. I mean, it's great to be spending five years on a four year course isn't it? Absolutely wonderful! A perfect way to pass the time!   Looking back,

‘Half Bread Is Always Better Than None’ says OAU VC on the ASUU/CONUA Tussle On Campus

Image
By Gbolahan Latinwo The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University has expressed his mind over the ASUU/CONUA strike that is currently going on the Obafemi Awolowo University campus. He made this statement during an interview session with the Association of Campus Journalists, OAU at the inauguration and swearing-in of the Students’ Union Officers. When asked about the ongoing ASUU strike on campus, he said the reason they are doing the inauguration is because the school is on session and that nobody wants a total closure, those who are agitating have their reasons, same with those who are not. He stated that this is an academic community and people reason in different ways, although the management isn’t too happy that a section of the University is on strike and that there’s disagreement among the academic members of staff but the management is happy that the students are still benefiting even in spite of all that is happening. When asked on the plight of students that are no

FASAOAU: Is It True The President Embezzled

Image
By Ajibade Abdullah Adewale The road to FASA remains dusty.  Tell those who wish to tread this path to avoid putting on white garments. Otherwise, they should be ready to get dirty. When there is fire on the mountain, what’s foreseen of anyone is to either find a panacea or abscond. Here, what they do is maintain a “siddon look” stance as the fire munches deeper while they comfortably patronise beer parlours and lavish the limited resources that are not theirs on “shapes and bottles”. A financial boost for the seller, but to the detriment of the progress of a larger audience, the students. Riddles! The puzzle besieging the Faculty of Arts Students’ Association, Obafemi Awolowo University, has invariably inflicted a headache for the genius that even a typical student wouldn’t try cracking. A friend who has lost hope in the association would always say, “This puzzle doesn’t deserve our Time “. To me, it is worth whatever time we have dedicated to demanding a change.  We can no longer a
