OAU Lecturers Embark On An Indefinite Strike

EAA: OAU lecturers embark on an indefinite strike action.  The Academic Staff Union of Universities, OAU branch has commenced its strike action following the university's refusal to reimburse its members of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA).  The congress held Monday January 31st, 2022 was when a consensus was reached for the union to embark on its strike.  A statement released by the union reads: “Congress noted that there was no serious commitment on the part of the University to effect payment of EAA to deserving members. “Congress also noted that all political and diplomatic means to resolve the imbroglio has failed. Consequently, congress resolved that: Total, Comprehensive and Indefinite Strike should commence immediately ii. The strike must not be called off without a congress resolution to the effect. “Payment of EAA must be based on ASUU computation.   OAU Management Serves Students Letters Over Protest Faith Alofe The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, in a response to the peaceful protest staged by the students of the school has served query letters to students who were considered "leaders of the struggle".   Recall that the peaceful protest was staged as a result of the death of a student, Miss Adeshina Aishat who died at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile Ife, where she was referred to by the university’s health centre. The Management thereafter shutdown the school on October 2nd, 2021 while exams were ongoing for over a month and was later reopened November 5th for students to finish their examinations after the committee constituted by the school to carry out investigations submitted their reports. A viral Facebook post shows a query letter dated 7th of January stating the offence supposedly committed by the students during the protest and has been given 48 hours to respond to query stating reasons why

  ASUU OAU STRIKE AND HOW IT AFFECTS ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES  Gbolahan Latinwo The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University met on Tuesday 11th of January, 2022 over the update on EAA disbursement. In a statement released dated 11th of January, 2022 and signed by the chairman of the union Adeola Egbedokun Ph.D, the Congress, after exhaustive deliberation, resolved that the branch should embark on total, indefinite and comprehensive strike and the branch executives should commence the process of obtaining permission from the national secretariat to embark on total, indefinite and comprehensive strike. This strike is coming when the University is trying to balance the interrupted academic calendar by COVID-19 which has led to the merging of two UTME sets with batch A just resuming and batch B awaiting admission.
