  THE EMANATION OF THE ENGLISH CHURCH FROM THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH The Catholic church emanated from the Roman empire. The word "Catholic" is Greek for “universal” while the Anglican church is referred to as the “Church of England.” Though the duo sprung from the same Christian roots founded by Jesus Christ in Judea 2000 years ago, Anglicans and Catholics have diverged to become two separate denominations in Christianity. The Anglican church came into being during the reformation, it was the brainchild of Henry VIII. He couldn’t secure a sanctioned divorce from the catholic church and therefore broke off to form his own sect. During the time of Elizabeth I, the Anglican church was formalized.   LEKKI TOLL GATE MASSACRE; WE WILL NOT FORGET Exactly a year ago, this day was painted red and our streets coated with blood. Families were thrown into mourning for the heroes we lost overnight. These were the true heroes, the one who paid the asking price of freedom and good governance, those who heard the nation wailing and answered its clarion call with bravery.  They were sacrificed in the massacre at Lekki Toll Gate and today, we rise to honour their sacrifice, to memorialize our fallen heroes.  I know you feel the pain of their suffering and knowing that Nigeria still languishes in travail, it pricks your heart. However, to give a befitting memorial, we must first recall the grave injustice that happened that day.   October 1st Protest In the early hours of Friday, the Independence day, students converged at Student Union Building (SUB) and later proceeded to the University Health Centre. On discovering that it was locked, they took their protest to the main gate of the University. Students shut the campus gate.  After some minutes of protest, Professor Isiaka Aransi, the Dean of Division of Students Affairs showed up to address the students. They refused to give him audience and demanded that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede address them instead. After many hours of protesting, students felt they were not given proper attention by the University management. They proceeded to block Ife/Ede road and also went ahead to block the Ife/Ibadan expressway to get the attention of the public.  The Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr Abiodun Olarenwaju, later turned up to address the students but, he was not welcomed, as students insisted on being addressed by the Vice Chance

  THE SENATE MEETING AND IT'S EFFECT ON OAU EXAMS AND HER STUDENTS.  The senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, held an emergency meeting to investigate the protest embarked upon by students of the university. The students of Obafemi Awolowo University had staged a protest on October 1st,following the death of Adeshina Aishat Omowumi, a 24 year old final year student in the Department of Foreign Language.They blamed the school health centre for negligence which resulted in the death of Aishat. During the protest,they barricaded major roads. This prompted the university management to suspend student activities and direct all students to vacate the halls of residence. It also put the swearing-in of the newly elected Students' Union officers on hold However, a statement was released on the 5th of October by the Registrar of the university, dictating the senate mandated the University Management to set up an independent committee to look into the immediate and rem

  At 7:00pm on Saturday, 1st October, a notice released by the Public Relations Officer of Obafemi Awolowo University started making the rounds - The school had been closed down; the swearing-in of the newly elected Students' Union officials had been put on hold; and students were to vacate the halls of residence before 12:00pm the next day. This came some hours after students came out en masse to protest the death of colleague, Adesina Aishat who died due to the alleged negligence of the health workers in the institution's health centre.  Many students expressed their uncertainty about the new development. They did not know whether to believe the news or not. However, a few of them packed their bags and were even seen leaving the halls that very night.
