Oyedokun Miracle Emerges OAU’s 5th Inaugural Poet in Thrilling Literary Showdown

          Taiwo Deborah  The Bloom Africa OAU Chapter has crowned a new voice for the university as Oyedokun Miracle emerged winner of the 5th Inaugural Poet competition held at Obafemi Awolowo University. The event, themed “Who Shall Be the 5th Inaugural Poet,” showcased young poets competing for the prestigious title of OAU’s next Inaugural Poet. While 18 contestants were expected, 14 poets participated. From these, six finalists were selected before the ultimate winner was chosen. The competition began with powerful performances that drew smiles, applause, and moments of reflection from the audience. Contestants presented thought-provoking pieces addressing societal issues, personal experiences, and national realities. OAU Emerged 2026 University Duel Champion

              John Alabi  Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has become the best STEM university in Nigeria, after defeating the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), at the final round of the 2026 university duel of the STEM Africa. The 2026 Universities Duel, which officially began on Sunday, Feburary 1, brought together over 50 universities, of which only 16 universities, comprising of 14 public and 2 private universities, made it to the main televised stage, where these universities were further divided into four groups of four. In the competition, the team OAU was ably represented by Quayum Alli, a Part 3 student Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Imran Ogungbayi, also a Part 3 student of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, and Adesina Lekan, a Part 4 student of Computer Science with Mathematics.               John Alabi  Team OAU, representing Obafemi Awolowo University in the ongoing 2026 Universities Duel, have secured a spot in the final round of the competition, after defeating the University of Ibadan at the semi-final stage this evening.  Following numerous tense moments, anxiety, and intense academic battles, Team OAU emerged victorious against the University of Ibadan with a breathtaking final result of; (OAU) 101 - 43 (UI).  Universities Duel is an annual competition that features various universities, including federal, state, and private institutions, coming together to test their wits and knowledge in technology, logical reasoning, and they also compete on STEM- related questions which encompasses Mathematics, Data analysis, Verbal Reasoning and General Knowledge, for months, till a final champion emerges. OAU Inter-Faculty Debate Postponed Till Further Notice

                     Olatunde Joan The Inter-Faculty Debate Competition organised by Education Television Nigeria (EduTV) in partnership with the Great Ife Students’ Union has been unexpectedly postponed till further notice,  as a result of issues related to the availability and financing of the event venue. The debate was originally scheduled for January 30, but was first postponed due to the First Lady and other dignitaries' visit, saddled with hectic activities, leaving little or no time to prepare adequately for the event, leading to the initial postponement of today. In an interview with the Students’ Union President, Adelani David (Itabi), he assumed that EduTV had already reached an agreement with the university management on the venue, however, it was later discovered that the cost of the venue was expected to be covered by the Students’ Union. The prospects for Economic Development in Africa; The role of Technology and Finance, is the theme for this years Nigerian Economics students Association OAU Chapter's Annual Conference. The event which is the 5th edition, is slated for the 25th and 26th of October, 2017 at Oduduwa Hall OAU. National Universities Commission (NUC) has released the Ranking list of Nigerian Universities For Year 2017. University of Ibadan appeared in the first position, while Unilag and OAU followed. Covenant University is the only Private school in the top 10.
