Great Ife Students' Union Clarifies Misinformation Surrounding Rape Incident

By Omotara Adesina In response to the viral rape report released by the Osun State Police, the Great Ife Student Union has clarified the victim's relationship to the university. This clarification follows a thorough investigation conducted by the Central Executive Council to ascertain the victim's identity. The initial report, issued by State Command Spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, identified the victim as a student of Obafemi Awolowo University. However, the student union refuted this claim, stating, "We discovered that recent reports circulating about a rape incident mistakenly identifying the victim as a student of our institution. Great Ife Students' Union Demands Government's Implementation of Proper Safety Measures Following Esi Rita's Death

By Omotara Adesina The Great Ife Student Union released a formal statement on Friday, August 23, addressing the Federal Government and the Osun state government on the implementation critical safety measures on its federal roads. This statement came in the wake of the fatal road accident that occurred on Thursday, August 22, 2024, claiming the life of Esu Rita  Ema, a final student of Foreign Languages Department.  Rita, who was on her way to submit her final year project, was hit while attempting to cross the Ife-Ibadan road at the campus gate. According to eye witnesses, the driver, one Lasisi Sodiq Segun, drove on high speed, killing the student while she stood by the roadside. OAU Inaugurates Students' Union Executives for 2023/2024 Session

By Omotara Adesina and Adedoyin Oguntade The inauguration of the elected Students' Union executives took place on Thursday, August 8th, at Oduduwa Hall. The event started around 11:00am. It commenced with the University's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, introducing the principal officials and dignitaries. The early proceedings included a welcome address by the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. J.A. Odedire, and an electoral speech by Ogunperi Taofeek, Chairman of the Electoral Commission. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.S. Bamire, then gave his speech. He spoke about issues concerning leadership and how the new set of leaders should strive to uphold good values.
