OAU Inaugurates Students' Union Executives for 2023/2024 Session

The inauguration of the elected Students' Union executives took place on Thursday, August 8th, at Oduduwa Hall. The event started around 11:00am. It commenced with the University's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, introducing the principal officials and dignitaries. The early proceedings included a welcome address by the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. J.A. Odedire, and an electoral speech by Ogunperi Taofeek, Chairman of the Electoral Commission.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.S. Bamire, then gave his speech. He spoke about issues concerning leadership and how the new set of leaders should strive to uphold good values.

After the swearing-in of the Speaker, Honourable Oladapo Olakunle Olajide, by the Vice Chancellor, the speaker proceeded to swear-in the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Joshua David, and the Clerk, Honourable Alawode Ewaoluwa. Hon. Oladapo also conducted the swearing-in of the parliamentarians, Hall Executive Council, and the Central Executive Council.


The newly inaugurated President, Damilola Isaac Omoboriowo (Dr. Bush), delivered his presidential speech titled "New Dawn at Obafemi: The Growth of Greatness, the Redefined Pursuit of Excellent Unionism." In his speech, he celebrated the inauguration of the Students’ Union and expressed gratitude to university leaders for their support. He acknowledged the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, and other university officials, emphasizing their contributions to academics, research, and administration. He recounted the campaign and election night, highlighting the excitement and support from students. His speech also outlined plans to improve student life, particularly cleanliness in residence halls, collaboration with university authorities, and mental health initiatives. He emphasized unity and proactive problem-solving, concluding with a call to action to enhance the university's greatness through collective effort.

Later proceedings of the event included words of counsel and prayers from the Chaplain of All Souls Chapel, Very Rev. Segun Oyetunde, and the Chief Imam of OAU Central Mosque, Prof. Abubakar Abefe Sanusi. The religious leaders enjoined the newly-inaugurated leaders to tread the right paths.

Certificates were presented to the Electoral Commission, Electoral Petition members, Judicial Council members, the outgoing CEC members, outgoing HEC members, and SRC members by Professor Odedire, Dean, Division of Student Affairs.
