CEC Election Yet to Commence with Delays Across Faculties

By Theophilus Adeniyi Awotunde As of 11am, the much-anticipated Central Executive Council (CEC) election has yet to commence, despite being scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. ACJOAU reporters stationed across all faculties have provided detailed live updates indicating a lack of presence from electoral commissioners, causing delays and growing concerns among students and candidates. Faculty of Education As of 09:14 a.m., our reporter noted that a funeral was taking place at the faculty basement, the designated election venue. While candidate agents are present, there is no sign of the electoral commissioners. Although the debate started much later than its slated time, it still ran its course. Great Ife Students' Union Election Kicks Off with HEC Elections

Ademola Esther The Great Ife Student Union election begins today with the Hall Executive Council (HEC) elections. The HEC election is scheduled to hold from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Halls of Residence. The candidates and voters are reminded to adhere strictly to the election and voting guidelines as outlined in the general election guidelines. Some of the guidelines include: No Campaigning is to take place at the polling units; only legal occupants of the hall will be permitted to vote, and voting shall be conducted by secret ballot. The Central Executives Council (CEC) election will be on Wednesday, June 26, and the Student Representative Council election will take place on Friday, June 28. The Electoral Commission also reminds all candidates and their supporters to follow instructions that have previously been communicated.

Adedoyin Oguntade The chairman of the Great Ife Students' Union Electoral Commission, Ogunperi Taofeek, affirmed during the press conference held on Wednesday, June 19 at the SUB TV room, that the commission is committed to a transparent process. The purpose of the press conference is to keep the entire student body abreast of the preparation and guidelines for the election, voter education, and to address important questions. The chairman stated that transparency and credibility are important in this election. The chairman further stated that the Central Executives Council (CEC) election will take 48 hours to conclude. He said, "the final announcement will be made on Thursday, June 27, at the SUB TV room." The chairman further explained that the number of ad hoc staff to support the electoral commissioners will be increased. Ayanfe Oluwafemi On Sunday, 9th June 2024, Mercy Olagunju, a 100-level Department of Foreign Languages (German) student, was pronounced winner of the 2024 OAU Inaugural Poetry Contest, themed "The Legacy", and sponsored by Bloom Africa. The event was held in the TV room of the Ken Saro Wiwa Students' Union building of the Obafemi Awolowo University. In an interview with the winner, she likened how she felt to that of a champion, after she was announced "the Legacy Hero." As she clings to the title of the 3rd inaugural poet in OAU, she commented that nothing equated to her emotions at that moment. Mercy, giving a run-through of her experience, said, "I got to know about the contest from Memunat Ali (the first Inaugural Poet on the OAU campus) when I had the opportunity to meet her at a conference and told her of my intention to be the next "Memunat Ali." The Icons Organization Welcomes New Executives

The Icons Organization has witnessed a transition in leadership as new executives have been sworn in. The swearing-in of the new executives took place on Sunday, June 9, at the agency's end of the session hangout. The election for the executive positions took place on Sunday, July 2, at History Topmost Floor. After the election, the winners were announced. Adedoyin Oguntade has been passed the baton as the new Editor-in-Chief, Omotara Adesina as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Financial Secretary.  Other executives include: Oluwapelumi Solagbade, General Secretary and Welfare Officer; Oludele Joy, Assistant General Secretary; Adetunji Oluwafemi, Production Manager; and Abdul-Hakeem Akiyode, Assistant Production Manager. The head of the disciplinary committee, Theophilus Adeniyi, was appointed at the hangout. The new executives are saddled with the responsibilities to uphold the standard that has been set by their predecessors.

Great Ife Students' Union Electoral Commission Releases Election Calendar and Commences Sales of Forms

Adedoyin Oguntade The Electoral  Commission of the Great Ife Students' Union announced on Thursday, June 13, via a press release that the sale of nomination forms for the union election has commenced. The sale of nomination forms is scheduled to span from Friday, June 14, to Wednesday, June 19. The forms will be available at the Students' Union Building (SUB) Conference Room. The election timetable and procedures that all candidates are to follow for the upcoming election were also released in a document. A press conference and the Hall Executives Council (HEC)/Central Executives Council (CEC) meetings are set to take place on Wednesday, June 19. The Students Representative Council's screening will occur on Thursday and Friday, June 20 and 21, respectively. Additionally, the HEC manifesto and debate are scheduled for Friday, June 21, followed by the HEC election on Saturday, June 22. A Press Confrontational Debate for CEC members is planned for Monday, June 24.

Great Ife Students' Union Electoral Commission Lifts Ban on Campaign Activities

  Adedoyin Oguntade The Electoral Commission of the Great Ife Students' Union, in a release dated Tuesday, June 11, lifted the ban on campaigning for the 2022/2023 election. The committee also implores candidates to familiarize themselves with the campaign rules which are contained in the document attached to the release. According to the commission, the sales of nomination forms will commence soon. The commission will also release detailed information, guidelines, and procedures to allow for a transparent election process. Recall that the Great Ife Students' Representative Council, led by Rt. Hon. Ganiyu Yusuf, on Thursday, June 6, in its Business Sitting, nominated thirteen students, one from each Faculty, to constitute the Electoral Committee, which will oversee the forthcoming Students' Union Elections.
