THE EMANATION OF THE ENGLISH CHURCH FROM THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

The Catholic church emanated from the Roman empire. The word "Catholic" is Greek for “universal” while the Anglican church is referred to as the “Church of England.” Though the duo sprung from the same Christian roots founded by Jesus Christ in Judea 2000 years ago, Anglicans and Catholics have diverged to become two separate denominations in Christianity. The Anglican church came into being during the reformation, it was the brainchild of Henry VIII. He couldn’t secure a sanctioned divorce from the catholic church and therefore broke off to form his own sect. During the time of Elizabeth I, the Anglican church was formalized.

The catholic church began as soon as Christ’s apostles started to preach after his death. In the 4th century AD, Catholicism was made the official religion of the Roman empire. According to Rev. Juwon: “King Henry was a powerful king, he kept giving birth to female children, so there was no one to succeed him. He married the wife of his late cousin, in hopes that she could bear him a son. Some of the priest then were angry as they saw it as a taboo. Meanwhile, prior to that time, they (REV FATHERS) could not deal with the fact that they would live without getting married. Some of them had secret wives, but when the issue of Henry VIII came, many spoke ill of the issue and it became serious, to the extent that King Henry VIII had to be excommunicated from the church.”

He further stated; “...but as a man of influence, he had many priests on his side. Those who felt tired of the papacy decided to form an alliance to reform the catholic doctrine i.e, the way of worship. As a result, many came out to support King Henry VIII. Then, they exited the catholic to form the English church known as the Anglican church which has its siege in England. They neglected the papal system and used bishops and archbishops instead."

In conclusion, the Anglican priests can now get married without victimization. Parishioners take communion, but believe it to be a symbolic act. The catholic priest must take a vow of celibacy unlike the Anglican priest. The Anglican church and Catholic church were the same until Henry VIII broke from the church. However, both churches have been weathering their own storm of controversy in recent years.
