LEKKI TOLL GATE MASSACRE; WE WILL NOT FORGET
Exactly a year ago, this day was painted red and our streets coated with blood. Families were thrown into mourning for the heroes we lost overnight. These were the true heroes, the one who paid the asking price of freedom and good governance, those who heard the nation wailing and answered its clarion call with bravery.
They were sacrificed in the massacre at Lekki Toll Gate and today, we rise to honour their sacrifice, to memorialize our fallen heroes.
I know you feel the pain of their suffering and knowing that Nigeria still languishes in travail, it pricks your heart. However, to give a befitting memorial, we must first recall the grave injustice that happened that day.
At about 7:00pm on the night of 20th October, 2020, members of the Nigerian Army opened fire on unsuspecting endSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos state. According to DAILY POST, 99 people were killed during the protest and many others lost, their bodies were not found.
The Nigerian Army initially denied their involvement in the massacre but, subsequently admitted that they had been deployed to the toll gate with live bullets on the orders of the governor of Lagos State.
Despite media claims and reports, the Nigerian government has refuted all claims that the shooting led to the death of innocent civilians, insisting that the reports were fake. They also refused to take responsibility for the savage brutality displayed that night. Up till now, justice has been denied it's free course.
Through whatever medium you have, raise your voice in solidarity with the aggrieved voices of Nigerians all over the nation, as we mourn and honour the sacrifice of our heroes who fell at the Lekki Toll Gate massacre.
