DIFFERENCES

Adebiyi Damilola L.

We call ourselves Brothers
We shook hand in allegiance
With what we presumed was a clean conscience

Together we sat in class
Hoping together we can pass
Irrespective of the name to whom I made my petition
Nor the nature of your purification

On the way home, the difference started to show
Admist the fuming smokes taking over the city like snow
Amongst the loud clangs of swords that death fatal blows

Now I am an enemy because my hair was styled like an English
Now I must die because I pleaded for my life in English
Now I am no longer your brother because the Holy name was uttered in a movie in France
I'm no longer your brother because you have to avenge the blasphemy that happened in France
