THE KISS THAT STOPPED A SUICIDE

ADEBAYO OLUWATOMISIN E.     One of the worst things about being young is the way passing things seems somehow permanent. So when a 16-year old in Nigeria faced yet another example of fate raining all over his incredibly poor family, he decided to step out rather than suffer a life of torment and misery.    Climbing over the railing of a pedestrian bridge, he prepared to jump.At which point a passing sales girl named Janet decided to get involved. Despite having never seen the kid before, despite the girl knowing nothing of his problems, she followed him to the railing and did the only thing she could; She listened as this random 16 years old described the pit his life had fallen into, she listened as he listed the endless problems tearing his family life to bits and then she simply showed him her wrists.   As they stood there, surrounded by the Police and gawping pedestrians, Janet told him the story behind her own attempted suicide quietly, firmly and withou...

WHEN I WAS RAPED

Image
ADEBAYO OLUWATOMI In higher institution, a relationship can only last a few days or weeks enough to get one through the social events of the session which in the case were the Basketball Game and the Campus turnup party. I watched the basketball match that followed the party and the formal dance with a rapis,"MY RAPIST".    He was the captain of the Wildlions, the best basketball team on campus and was regarded as having a shot at a professional career. I liked him simply because i was concerned at that time with being popular, and dating a sport captain was an automatic ticket to the crowd.    I was also uncomfortably a member of the most likely to succeed crowd and dating a star was becoming a habit for me, I was previously dating a guy in the sciences department, he was a prince of morals and never gave me attention. We left the basketball court to drive to his house and pick up some stuffs for the party. I had consumed a little bit of alcoholic drink just...

THE PENSION

Kehinde Babajide I.   “What the hell happened back there?” Tola screamed. This was after Tola and his cohorts had robbed a retired public officer, Mr. Adeboye, of his pension. The plan was to take the money without any failure but Supo, a member of the gang, mistakenly fired into the air which attracted the attention of other residents. The police had arrived few minutes after the operation and gave the gang a hot chase, it was during this chase that Steve was shot on the head. It started when final year students in the History department were asked to pay a sum of N55, 000 [Fifty-five thousand naira] for their final year programs. Tola, Supo, Steve, Daniel and Andrew are best friends and were stunned at this development because they had no resources to pay for the programs. They started making plans to get the money, Supo advised them to sell some of their things to get the money, and the others rejected the idea. Stephen said they should apply for some menial jobs, ...

PATIENCE

By: Orodunsi Omolara There was no love lost between Seun and Debby. They have been roommates for the past year in a 3 bedroom apartment. Circumstances brought them together, they wouldn't be be living together under normal condition. Debby was the original occupant of the room but she had to get someone when she was urgently in need of cash and, Seun, who was desperately in search of a room jumped at the offer. Debby was a very cool and calm person, so soft-spoken and nice. Seun was the complete opposite of Debby, she was loud, aggressive and gaudy. Debby knew she was in for trouble the instant Seun moved in. Seun was always complaining of one thing or the other and accused Debby of everything, even when she was the careless one. The slightest thing irritated Seun and she took it out on Debby. One day,Seun started her yelling  as usual, but on that very day, Debby was in a very bad mood. She got a call from home that her dad was in a hospital but Seun continued her act not notic...

A PASSIONATE NIGHT

By: Olusanya Anuoluwapo Adeola.      Clara was shocked to discover that there was a mistake with the hotel bookings she had called earlier to make for herself and Mr Desmond Williams, her billionaire hot boss. They had both come for a conference in Abuja and had the intention to pass the night before taking the next flight to Lagos early in the morning. Clara was still trying to put her thoughts together when Desmond walked up to her and the receptionist. "Clara, is everything okay here?" He drawled behind her with that sexy voice that has  made most girls weep in their secret parts. "I..I think there is a problem with the reservations I made" Clara stammered hating to admit she had made a mistake, the receptionist cut in with her high voice ringing clearly to impress Desmond. "There is only one room available tonight Mr Williams." "We will share." Clara's thought scattered in different directions, and she raised her head up to look at ...
