Kamaldeen’s Clinical Brace Fires Block 2 Into Fajuyi Hall's Inter-Block Finals

Akorede Kamaldeen has delivered a match-winning performance, netting a brilliant brace to propel Block 2 into the final of the Adekunle Fajuyi Hall Inter-Block Competition, after a commanding 2–0 victory over Block 3.

The forward’s decisive display ensured his side booked a place in the final, capping off a dramatic turnaround for Block 2, who had earlier suffered back-to-back defeats and were on the brink of elimination. Their resurgence has been one of the biggest stories of this year’s competition.

The 2026 edition of the tournament kicked off at exactly 4 p.m. on Friday, July 10, with the opening clash between Annex I & K and Block 2. Since then, the competition has been filled with surprises, none bigger than Block 2’s remarkable run to the final.

Kamaldeen is now set to lead his side into a high-stakes final clash against a free-scoring Block 1 team, who secured their own spot after thrashing Annex A and B 5–1 in a dominant semi-final performance.
Out of the eight blocks that progressed to the knockout stage from the two groups, only Block 2 and Block 1 have made it to the final, underlining the intensity and competitiveness of the tournament.

Kamaldeen’s performance was particularly impressive given the early setback he faced. The striker had an initial goal ruled out for a prior foul, but he responded with resilience and attacking intent, going on to score twice and take his tally to six goals. This places him alongside Victor, Sean-Paul, and Dipo at the top of the goal-scoring chart.


The semi-final, originally scheduled for 9:30 a.m., eventually kicked off at 10:35 a.m. and concluded at 11:46 a.m., following two minutes of added time.

Despite his heroics, Kamaldeen’s performance was not without controversy. He received a yellow card and was temporarily sent off the pitch after committing a foul inside the opposition box. During his absence, his teammates led defensively, showing resilience both at the back and in attack until his return.

Hassan Johnson (Rennie), the Sports Secretary and tournament organizer, confirmed that the final match will take place on Monday, August 3, with the exact kickoff time to be announced.

In a statement released on Thursday, 30th October, and signed by the Union’s President, Adelani David Oluwatodimu (Itabi); Secretary-General, Habeeb Oke Isa (Opeyemi); and Public Relations Officer, Oreoluwa Joseph Olowosile (Wà á là), the Union described the practice as “disturbing” and exploitative.
