In the recent statement issued by the Great Ife Students' Union, on the efforts and progress made so far on students welfare, and convenience for their academic environment. The statement gave updates and progress on pressing issues like the new transport system, proposed renovations in Awo Hall, and e-portal upgrade.

The union stated the effort made on the new transport system challenges, noting that after a series of meetings (where they expressed the frustrations of the students) with the Vice Chancellor, noting that the management emphasized the need for patience, saying that the shift in the transportation system is to maintain the University standard, mentioning that the management already proposed sourcing private investors, to introduce more buses for the convenience of the students.
The Union also reacted to the proposed renovation in Awo Hall, where the management recently issued an eviction notice to the residents of Block 7&8 in Awolowo Hall, due to a proposed renovation project funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), and it needs to be utilized within a given period of time.

The Union, in the statement, disagrees with this implementation of such a renovation, saying it wasn't on a ground of proper planning, adequate notice, and it does not make provisions for the affected students. The union described that such a renovation during mid semester is impractical and unjustified.
Speaking on the upgraded OAU e-portal, the Union finds fault in the fact that the upgrades of the e-portal is still not complete, even though it is almost mid-semester, and its length of time is restricting students from completing their course registration, tuition fee payment, amongst others.
It was said that the director of the ICT explained that the upgrade started at the end of the harmattan semester, which is the main reason for the delay. Meanwhile, the Director assured the Students' Union that the upgraded portal will be fully activated within the next 72 hours.

On students' overall welfare, the Union reassured its committed to ensuring the stability of the university community, even though the final decisions lie with the university management. The Union therefore nudges the entirety of the GreatIfe students to exercise patients, and be law abiding, with a promise to hold a congress after 48 hours to know the university's final stance, on making practicable and justified decisions on students welfare.
