Fajuyi Hall Hosts First Health Outreach; Implore Occupants to Prioritize Their Wellbeing

The Executive Council of the Adekunle Fajuyi Hall of Residence, in partnership with several health-related teams, hosts the hall’s first awareness outreach tagged 'Health Outreach '26', where residents and the Great Ife students at large, were educated and sensitized on how to stay healthy and maintain a healthy living.
The health outreach, held at the Fajuyi Hall car park, was attended by staff of the university, Students' Union Executives, among other officers, where attendees had access to free medical checkup, medication, health awareness and lifestyle education, first aid and emergency response training, among other benefits outlined for the outreach.
The event kicked off with an opening speech from one of the hall executives, who acknowledged all attendees and volunteers of the outreach. He further stated that the objective of the outreach was to sensitize and educate the residents on how they can stay healthy.
Sequel to this, the residents alongside other attendees were given free drugs, access to free medical checkup, health awareness talk and lifestyle education talk, among other activities.
Speaking on the effectiveness of the outreach, an occupant of the hall Adekanmi Adedayo, expressed excitement— “it is a great privilege to have access to this free health outreach where I have access to free drugs, medical tests, amongst other health check-ups."
Similarly, Ogunrin Adedamilarin, a former occupant of the hall, lauds the executives, saying, —"bringing the health outreach to the doorstep of Fajuyi Hall to raise health awareness and other benefits to the Hall, is nothing but an impressive and job well done by the Excos."
Yusuf Michael (Legit Media), another resident, explained that the administration of OP Myke is delivering great benefits to the residents of the hall. He mentioned the free medical test, free condom, check of weight and other health status, and overall the dispensation of water in the Hall, worth writing about.
Speaking with one of the volunteers, Fakehinde Blessing, a Part 4 student of Pharmacy, Fakinde Blessing, expressed excitement over being a part of the initiative,—"it enables me to assess my fellow students and tell them about the basic health conditions." —She noted
Similarly, Peculiar Alonge, a Part 3 student of the Pharmacy, who volunteered in the malaria diagnosis testing unit, commends the massive turnout of the residents, which she said means that they genuinely prioritize their health. She further stated how excited she was to practice beyond the lab experience.
Speaking at the outreach, the Vice President of the Great Ife Students'Union, Iyanuoluwa Falade, stated how a lot of students nowadays fail to know their health status, noting that such a free health outreach is one way to keep students informed of their health. The vice-president also advised that OAU students generally should balance their academic life with prioritizing their health, in a bid to stay healthy.
In an interview with the chairman, Fajuyi Hall of Residence, OP Myke, he explained that the utmost aim of the outreach was to give the residents platform to know their current health status, increase awareness on prevention of infectious diseases, personal hygiene, nutrition, stress management and healthy lifestyle.
“The major rationale behind organising the outreach is the principle of my leadership, which is to always strive to promote the welfare of the Fajuyi Hall residents. Moreover, the death of one of our occupants early this year is a crucial inspiration for the outreach.”
