From Promise to Reality: First Lady Officially Commissioned New CNG Buses, Tricycles
The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University's and its Student on Thursday, 29th January welcomes the first lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with great heartfelt to the unveiling of the CNG buses and tricycles, which she promised earlier at the 48th convocation of the university, where she was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration on 14, December, 2024 alongside other notable figures.
The official notice of the commissioning was announced through the office of the register in a release, notifying students and staff of the event which was held at the university main football pitch (Main Bowl). The event was graced with the presence of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, amongst other dignitaries.
Kicking off the event, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, welcomed the students and guests, noting that the CNG-powered vehicles are aimed at providing a safer and more organised alternative to the existing transport system of the university.
Upon the arrival of His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, was accompanied with a dramatic performance from the Dramatic Arts students' of the university.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, expressed his sincere appreciation to the first ladu, describing the intervention as both thoughtful and timely.
Her Excellency, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, while commissioning the vehicles, took her time to inspect, interact briefly with the students and management by walking around the field and greeting them all.
The newly commissioned CNG buses and tricycles are expected to operate on designated routes within the campus, reducing long distance, and minimising the risks associated with informal transport options.
Speaking on behalf of the student body, the President of the Students’ Union, Oluwatodimu David, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her commitment to the welfare of the university community, saying students will benefit greatly from this.
