In the Akintola Hall of Residence, occupants have for a long time grappled with limited access to running water, especially during peak hours, as faulty taps which unavoidably led to inconsistent water flow and long queues had become a norm in the hall of residence. However, the recent installation of new taps within the hall of residence has spurred a somewhat significant improvement that has improved the availability, distribution, and access to water in the hall of residence.

Following this development, ICONS reporters in a visit to the hall of residence engaged some of the residents of the hall in an interview. According to the residents, the installation of running taps inneach block's toilet is not just a relief, it has totally eradicated the usual congestion that stems from low water supply. They also added that it has improved their hygiene and made morning routines smoother and less stressful.

In an interview with Dolapo, an occupant of the hall of residence, she stated how helpful and thoughtful the provision of those taps was to her saying, "actually, is was very helpful, especially for those of us that stays at the topper most floor, the stress of climbing stairs to fetch water was never easy, we just dey rough am ni."  She however pleaded for the consistency of the water supply, so as to enable residents to enjoy it better for a longer period.

Joy, another resident, considered this development  as a wise and amazing step by the hall management. "The tap is a wise, amazing, and wonderful decision. I'm so grateful for it".  She further emphasizes that, this isn't just for the benefits of the residents alone, but also the cleaners, who fetch water all the way from the taps downstairs, to the topper most floor of the hostel, by climbing the stairs which can be so stressful and tasking.

In a conversation with the Chairperson of the Hall of Residence, she explained that the running taps were sponsored by the hall managements, which she said was prompted by the urgency to reduce the residents' struggles for water, particularly for the residents of the top floors.

The Chairperson further clarified that the hall doesn't specifically experience water scarcity, however, the hall management sees the installation of running taps into all block's toilets as a means to reduce the occupant's stress, resulting from climbing stairs with water. She added that, "even if there will be a need for residents to get water downstairs, it will only be for cooking, as the water taps in the toilet will serve the purpose of flushing the toilets and washing clothes."  _— She stated_

The installation of new water taps in the hall's block toilets has significantly improved the living conditions of the residents. It reduced stress during peak hours, and promoted better hygiene within the hostel environment. This contributes to a more conducive atmosphere for learning and healthy living. This  improvement marks a commendable step toward better hostel infrastructure and student welfare.
