Matriculation: Insights into OAU

Abdul-Hakeem Akiyode

While the taste of freedom from parents is understood, we will still plead with you to get a grip. OAU has a high social life, and if you do not tread carefully, you might end up on the low end.

OAU, the most beautiful campus in Africa, has earned its prestige and bragging rights through hard work and feats. While I am happy to admit you and willing to hold a matriculation ceremony for you, to truly earn it and graduate well, you have to work.

First, matriculation. Matriculation is held on a day convenient to the management, mostly decided by the number of students being admitted. Therefore, if you are wondering why the date for this session's matriculation is as such, this is why.

Matriculation is held at the Amphi Theatre every session, where students will swear an oath to abide by the school rules. They will be oriented and told how life on campus is.

After matriculation, what next? There are lots of wonders on OAU that you can taste. You can join a club that piques your interest as you have a taste of 'as e dey hot' buns. This bun price will strive to chase you away, but don't concur.

Beyond the taste of snacks, I would like to take you on a tour of the school hostels. There are eight hostels for undergraduates, with four belonging to both genders. The male hostels are Angola Hall, Awolowo Hall, Adekunle Fajuyi Hall, and E.T.F. Hall. The female hostels are Mozambique Hall, Alumni Hall, Moremi Hall, and Ladoke Akintola Hall. There is only one known hall for postgraduates...

The school has not only an academic area or hostel area, but a section is reserved for the market too. There are other places too, like staff quarters, OAU Farm, OAU Zoo, e.t.c.

There are lots of things on the ground to explore for a lifetime; have you seen the sky, though? Have you seen our schoolmates, the bats? Honestly, I won't be surprised if a few are older than you.

As books are fun for some, parties are for others. If you are looking for a fellow partner with similar interests, you will find one. I advise you to tread with caution, balance all your interests with your academics, and see you at the top.
