Food Recipe: Jambalaya rice

JAMBALAYA RICE

Jambalaya is a delicious dish that showcases the wonderful fusion of West African, French, and Spanish cuisines. The "holy trinity" base of celery, bell pepper, and onion is a crucial component that gives the dish its unique flavor profile, while the protein used can vary depending on the season. It's a dish worth trying if you haven't had the chance to experience it yet!

INGREDIENTS

Oil

Cajun seasoning

Sausage( sliced into rounds)

Boneless chicken breasts

1 onion, diced

1 small green bell pepper, diced

2 stalks celery, diced

3 garlic, minced

1 Tin/Can tomatoes

1tbs of red pepper flakes

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Salt

Sauce

White rice

Chicken broth(STOCK)

STEP ONE

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a medium/large pot. Season the sausage and chicken pieces with Cajun seasoning. Stir fry sausage and chicken until it's nicely browned. Once done, remove the sausage and chicken with a spoon and set it aside for now.

STEP TWO

Using the same pot stir fry a mixture of finely chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Trust me, this medley of aromatic vegetables will add a bold and irresistible flavor to your meal. Cook the mixture until it softens and releases its fragrant essence.

STEP THREE

Add a can of blended tomatoes and stir to combine. Let the mixture cook for a few minutes until it begins to simmer. Next season with a teaspoon of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick, half a teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper for added depth, and a pinch of salt to balance out the flavors. Add a dash of hot pepper sauce to round out the taste.

STEP FOUR

Gently mix the chicken and sausage into the simmering mixture. Cook it for precisely 10 minutes, occasionally stirring to guarantee that the ingredients are evenly distributed and cooked to perfection.

STEP FIVE

Add the rice to the pot and pour in the chicken broth. Mix thoroughly.

STEP SIX

Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to a low simmer and let it cook for a total of 20 to 25 minutes. Once the liquid is fully absorbed, the Jambalaya rice will be ready to serve and enjoy.
