Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci Shatters Guinness World Record with Epic 'Cook-a-thon' Marathon

Renowned Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong-Bassey, widely known as Hilda Baci, has achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing the previous Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, an event she aptly named her "cook-a-thon."

The foodprenuer from Akwa-Ibom state in Nigeria's Niger Delta region, Baci had announced her ambitious goal of surpassing the previous record set by renowned female chef Lata Tondon from Rewa, India. Chef Tondon had managed to surpass the previous record holder by an impressive 20 hours, preparing 250 sandwiches, 400 vada pavs, and various other meals over a grueling four-day period, ultimately setting a record of 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds.


On a Monday morning, Hilda Baci not only exceeded Lata Tondon's record but also set a new one by adding an additional nine hours to the previous benchmark. Her determination and unwavering focus have showcased her as a woman who knows precisely what she desires. Prior to the cook-a-thon, she diligently prepared herself health-wise by collaborating with a fitness trainer to strengthen her legs and arms and a nutritionist to tailor her diet to sustain her during the planned 96-hour stint in the kitchen. Her fitness and wellness trainer, Elemini Ekerette, also known as Kemen, publicly expressed his confidence in Hilda's ability to break the record, citing her impressive strength and unwavering dedication.


During the cook-a-thon, Hilda is reportedly allowed only five minutes of rest per hour, equating to a mere two hours of rest within a 24-hour period. During these brief respites, which are typically accumulated by skipping the hourly five-minute breaks, she receives massages to stimulate blood circulation and undergoes medical checks conducted by her team. The cook-a-thon commenced on Thursday, May 11th, and will conclude at 4 pm on Monday, May 15th, at Amore Gardens, Lekki.


Support for Hilda continues to pour in from her enthusiastic fans, devoted family, and steadfast friends who have steadfastly stayed overnight at the venue, even braving the downpour from last night, to cheer her on. Hilda's remarkable achievement has captivated global attention, with her name trending on Twitter and garnering praise from admirers worldwide. Throughout the morning, accolades have been pouring in for Hilda and her sous chef, Chef Sunny, who has provided invaluable support in this extraordinary culinary endeavor.
