Be My Rebel Girl.

Be My Rebel Girl.

POET: OWOEYE TAIWO BISOLA

I see girl, that revolution is your middle name.
Like MTN, everywhere you go, it clings to the craziness of your bum shorts.
The way you hold your head high & that swagger in your stepping set the work aflame.
The way you rule your world, you might as well be a GLO brand ambassador.

Will you be my soul sister? I bet we gonna rock & roll with our hair in dreads
& our guitars hanging with chains. our shoes high above heaven.
I see you girl with your rebellious art seeking the transition from darkness
into light. You are the queen of my world though you have yet to call me SISTER.

I've called you my sister, my best friend, my rebel before our first HELLO.
The world calls us rebellious with our short skirts & crop tops.
But we want to light up the world with the difference that we are different.
We worship the floor the Bikini Kill walk on but we won't dare be in Bikinis
& on stage with our voices entrapping the attention of the world with our songs.

We prefer our bum shorts with our bodies gyrating on our route for a new dawn.
In my dreams, I've known you. I know in reality I will know you too. My dear rebel girl.
I like you. When we meet up, will you show me the door to your little secrets as well?
Will you teach me how to stitch into my speeches something sassy & serious as well?
We will do sleepovers & write songs singing sweetly into each other's ears with the host of
angels singing with us eternally.
