Russia Attacks Ukraine

The Russian President claimed that his country was suffering from constant threats from Ukraine. He stated that his goal was to protect people suffering from bullying and genocide.

He aimed at the demilitarization and de-nazification of Ukraine but there had been no genocide in Ukraine.

The invasion that Russia promised would never happen has started resulting to war between both neighbours.

On the 24th of February 2022, the Russians attacked Ukraine at dawn. They struck a missile at the country's (Ukraine) second largest city, Kharkive. The Ukrainian government urged the citizens to stay calm and appealed to international countries to stop the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

The war broke out because Ukraine wanted to join NATO alliance which the Russians are against. President Putin wants Ukraine to be politically under his control. He is against Ukraine making its own independent foreign policy like forming an alliance with NATO. Russia with Ukraine is an empire but Russia without Ukraine is just a big state.

Countries supporting Ukraine include USA. Anthony Blinker, US secretary of state said on NBC News that if Russia continues to escalate they will fight them. Russia's largest bank that holds more than one third of the of Russia banking asset has been cut from the US financial system.

Countries like France, Germany, Italy,United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand also support Ukraine.
