OAU Hostel: Many More Exposed Soakaways

If you stay on Campus hostel, this is for you!

Sequel to the painful and heartbreaking news of the avoidable death of Ajibola Heritage, I decided to take a walk around my hostel, Moremi hall on campus.

To my greatest surprise, I encountered a few unsuspecting opened soakaways.

They look unsuspecting because they have doors. The soakway is the first door you see before the bathrooms and toilet doors. Some are completely opened, slightly opened and a few, completely covered.

I took a step of faith to look into the completely opened ones and what i saw was rather heartbreaking. Excreta and other waste produce clouded the soakaway. A student might unknowingly slide into the opened soakaway after a long bath or after using the toilet.

A fresher might also mistaken it for a bathroom door. Worse still, a student might just sleep walk into one of these soakaways. This deplorable sight brought back memories of the Late Heritage Ajibola. I pray her family is given the fortitude to bear this great loss.

It is pertinent to note that you watch carefully because sometimes, mistakes especially terrible ones, could be fatal.

Take note of your surroundings and watch because many things are happening.

If Moremi hall, one of  the most beautiful, has carelessly opened soakaways, what of other campus hostels?

Are their residents even safe?

Comments? They will be greatly appreciated.

What is the state of soakaways in your hostel?

Good, bad or terrible?

Any complaints?

  1. I don't know what they are doing that they can't maintain things like that at the expense of people's lives. It's total wickedness! Thank you for the awareness, Glory.
