JCI OAU Retreat: Going For Edge 3.0; Hosts Professionals For 3 Days

The Obafemi Awolowo University community is set for the 2021 training retreat organized by the Junior Chamber International, OAU. The body is a non-profit organization of young citizens established within the walls of Obafemi Awolowo University to equip members and students in general with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to take up leadership roles within and outside the country. As part of the preparations for the upcoming 3-day training retreat scheduled to start on the 25th of August 2021, the organization's leadership spoke with members of the press on Sunday, 22nd of August, 2021.

The President, Mr. Promise Isaac, announced that the organization seeks to continually give back to the school community through series of training and event such as this. According to him;

"The Edge training started three years back as a result of giving back to the 'society and students' community. The reason we started this training is because of one of our creed which says; 'Service to humanity is the best work of life and since most of our members work actively to support the society with our projects and training, the best way to give back to them is to have a training that gives them a working edge beyond the four walls of the class which started three years ago. The current one is the Edge 3.0."

The Edge 3.0 will host a series of sessions for students who are both existing members of JCI and those who want to leverage 21st-century skills. While speaking with the pressmen, the President emphasized the aim and objectives of the event.

"Basically, it is a form of publicity to make people know more about JCI. To achieve excellence. To know the value, what we offer, our mission, and our vision. There is a particular registration link sent out to people majorly in JCI, but people can still text or call on 07067409158 for more information."

According to reports obtained by the press from the event organizers, Edge 3.0 is open to all OAU students. The target audience is OAU students, including members and other students who are interested. The event will officially kickstart on Wednesday, 25th of August, and span for 3 days with several training and mentorship sessions.

When asked about the mode of participation, the organizers announced that participation is free and gave further details of the 3-day event; It's "free. For the past two training, there were paid. The guest speakers are professionals and certified in what they do. The first day is on Soft Skills (Digital Skills), and the second day is for them to harness what they learned in business and career, while the third day, which is the last day for the training will be on how they can collaborate. There will be a team session, the panel session, question and answer session, and networking session."

While answering questions on the plan for the participants after the event, the organizers informed that "there will be a one-month mentorship from each facilitator which will be paid by the participants depending on their readiness. Also, there will be certificates for the participants after the training."

Edge 3.0 starts 9am daily, and participants will spend 4 hours learning from professionals from different fields across the country. OAU students are invited to participate in this certification event and build on their existing skills to help them navigate leadership roles, achieve excellence, and reduce unemployment.
