Campus Journalism as described in “Adejumo Kabir’s” handbook about campus journalism refers to the act of collecting, writing and editing news stories for newspapers, magazines, television or radio within the institution community.  The practice of campus journalism is the foundation for anyone trying to pursue a career in journalism.

Campus Journalism is the best outfit that reports, writes contents, conduct interviews and investigates happenings within individual universities and that can be done by students of such institutions. The main purpose of campus journalism is to serve as watch dogs of the institutions, therefore becoming a campus journalist will help foster and trigger your prospects to amplify voices of student against the school’s unfavorable policies and actions.

Nevertheless, “Campus Journalism” may appear to be a one way traffic but it goes way beyond the practices of just writing about campus reports, it is the best place to receive training on how to lend a voice to the happenings in your community, serving as an  agent of change and also influencing the decisions of people.

Large number of activists or investigative reporters you see out there started out as campus reporters. Take our very dear own, Adejumo Kabir, he was one of the fore front campus reporters while he was in school. He used his write ups to challenge the authorities of the school, investigated inside stories and happenings in school especially his report on sexual scandal case of a lecturer that landed the said lecturer in jail.

His stints as a campus reporter got him the opportunity to write articles and he writes for top newspapers in the country like Premium Times amongst others. He won the campus journalism awards several times.

Proper training and grooming can best be achieved through your involvement in campus journalism, so to develop outstanding feat in the world of journalism, you need to have a platform you can leverage on as a guide to your chosen career path.
