DSA Grants Hostel Extension for Students Engaged in Academic Activities

The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has approved a special extension allowing students involved in statutory academic activities to remain in the university's halls of residence beyond the previously set vacation deadline of September 15.

This development was announced in an internal memorandum dated September 10, 2026, signed by the Vice-Dean of the Division of Student Affairs, Dr Lukman O. Olasunkanmi. Earlier, on September 4, the university had instructed all undergraduate students in the halls of residence to vacate their assigned bed spaces and remove their personal belongings by Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Under the new arrangement, students engaged in extended academic activities like the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES)/Student Work Experience Program (SWEP), Teaching Practice, College Examinations, and Farm Internships are eligible to apply for an extension of their stay in the halls.

The DSA has directed eligible students to submit a list of names, endorsed by an authorised university officer (such as their Faculty Dean or the Director of SIWES), to the Division of Student Affairs by Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Only students whose names appear on the submitted lists and who are currently residing in the university hostels will be considered for this extension. 

As part of the arrangement, male students granted the extension will be accommodated in Fajuyi Hall of Residence, Main Blocks, while female students will be accommodated in Akintola Hall of Residence during this period. Approved candidates are also required to pay ₦10,000 into the university account via Remita, after which the original receipt must be submitted to the DSA, and a photocopy presented at their respective halls of residence.

The DSA has emphasised that students granted the extension should be prepared to vacate the halls one week before the start of the new academic session.

This directive offers a limited accommodation solution for students whose academic commitments necessitate their continued presence on campus, following the earlier general requirement for students to vacate the halls by September 15.
