The Icons Organisation Unveils New Executives at Flavours and Friendship Picnic

On Sunday, August 30, the Icons Organisation inducted its newly elected executives while celebrating the achievements of its outgoing administration during its annual picnic, themed "Flavours and Friendship."

 The event brought together members, executives, and outgoing finalists and included the induction of the new executives, recognition of outstanding members, and a review of the organisation's activities and accomplishments, along with a series of games and interactive activities.

The programme commenced at 3:18 p.m. with an opening prayer, followed by the national and GreatIFE anthems led by  Ijeoma Anele. The event was moderated by Joy Oludele and Michael Olawuyi, after which the Editor-in-Chief, Oluwafemi Adetunji, delivered the welcome address. 


In his address, Oluwafemi expressed gratitude to the previous Editor-in-Chief, Adedoyin Oguntade, other executives and members, for their contributions to the organisation's growth.

During the session highlighting the administration’s achievements, the Editor-in-Chief disclosed that the organisation had expanded its webinar initiative by introducing subsequent editions, including Webinar 2.0 and 3.0. He also mentioned the introduction of certificate collection, members' hangouts, and the organisation’s podcast, which produced seven episodes. 

According to him, the organisation maintained a consistent news production and collaborated with Indi-Press. Notably, it won the Best Agency award at the ACJOAU Oratory Contest, and the overall report indicated that the organisation produced 198 reports during the administration.

The event then shifted to recreational activities, starting with an emoji game at approximately 3:45 p.m. Six volunteers participated in the game, which concluded around 4:15 p.m. Members were then divided into two groups for a nursery rhyme challenge before participating in a journalism trivia session that tested their knowledge of the field. An imposter syndrome-themed game was also organized before moving on to the appraisal and recognition segment at about 4:52 p.m.

Certificates of Service were presented to the outgoing executives— Taiwo Oyedeji, Eniola Adeyeye, Oyinlade Adeyemo, Israel Bakare, Joy Oludele, Oluwafemi Adetunji, Deborah Adeyemi, and Kehinde Ayodele—in recognition of their service and contributions to the organisation throughout their tenure.

Several members were also honored for their outstanding contributions. Fawaz Adedeji was named Best News Reporter with 21 reports, while John Alabi received the award for Best Feature Writer with 16 reports. Subomi Omonijo was recognized as the Most Promising Presenter, Adedoyin was awarded Best Sports Reporter with 26 reports. 
Blessed Elemilekan was named Most Dedicated Member for recording 17 news reports and active contributions to the podcast team.

Certificate of Merit were also presented to Icon Ezekiel Oguniyi, Icon Taiwo Adelusi, Icon Michael Olaniyi, Icon Ijeoma, and Icon Sofiat.

The outgoing executives were likewise acknowledged for their exemplary service to the organisation. Awards were presented to Eniola Adeyeye for serving as the Social Media Manager, Taiwo Oyedeji as Production Manager, Joy Oludele as Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Oyinlade as Secretary-General, and Oluwafemi Adetunji as Editor-in-Chief.

The event also marked the formal transition to a new administration, with Adeyemi Oyinlade assuming office as the newly inducted Editor-in-Chief. The new executives subsequently took the oath of office, officially beginning their tenure.

The closing session featured remarks from Adedoyin Oguntade, the former Editor-in-Chief, who urged the organisation and its executives to remain open to collaboration, dedicate their best efforts, and commit to their work.

Joy Oludele, the outgone Deputy Editor-in-Chief, then delivered the vote of thanks as the event concluded with a closing prayer led by John Alabi.


The picnic served as both a social gathering and a platform to celebrate the accomplishments of the outgoing administration, recognize members’ contributions, and formally usher in a new leadership for the Icons Organisation.​
