Great Ife SRC Summit Spotlights Digital Leadership and Innovation

Students, Departmental and Faculty students' representative council (SRC), guest speakers, and other dignitaries, today June 18, converged at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), for the Great Ife Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Legislative and Tech Summit.

The summit, themed “Reimagining Leadership in a Digital Age,” brought together student leaders and professionals to examine the evolving dynamics of leadership, technology, and entrepreneurship. The event was organised by the Great Ife SRC and featured alumni of the university, including the host, Damilare Fashina.

Proceedings began with an opening prayer delivered by a member of the council, followed by the recitation of the Nigerian national anthem and the GreatIfe anthem. The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Summit, in her opening remarks, stressed the urgency of redefining leadership in contemporary times.

“The question is not whether leadership will change. It already has. At Great Ife Students’ Union, we believe that student leadership is not a rehearsal. It is leadership,” she stated.

The keynote session featured a virtual address by the Chief Executive Officer of Hello.cv and co-founder of Jobberman, Opeyemi Awoyemi, who was represented by Olayemi Awoyemi. In his presentation on startup development, he encouraged students to identify a strong personal drive as a foundation for innovation.

“Something has to push you to start. Find your motivation,” he advised.

Other speakers at the summit shared practical insights into navigating careers in technology and business, emphasising the importance of starting small and building progressively. Many noted that their journeys began within the university environment, reinforcing the idea that impactful ventures can emerge from modest beginnings.

A major highlight of the event was the business idea pitch competition, where students presented innovative concepts to a panel of judges. Winners were awarded cash prizes in recognition of their creativity and entrepreneurial potential.

Awards were also presented to selected participants and contributors in acknowledgement of their impact and achievements.

The summit concluded on an inspiring note, equipping attendees with practical knowledge on leadership, innovation, and the expanding opportunities within the digital ecosystem.
