The OAU Supremacy Cup matchday 3, took a dramatic turn in the tournament, as teams battled fiercely for qualification, with goals, upsets, and eliminations shaping the next phase of the competition, as the league proceeds to the quarter finals.
One of the exhilarating moments in the match witnessed the Department of Animal Science (ANS) football team deliver a fascinating dominant performance, thrashing the Department of Kinesiology and Health Recreation (KHR) football team 5–1, in a one-sided encounter.
In this match, Ajilore (an ANS player) stole the spotlight with a “Hat Trick,” while Fiyin and Ibrahim also found the back of the net to seal an emphatic victory.
Similarly, the football team of the Department of Business Administration secured a convincing 3–1 win over the sister Department of Public Administration football club, while both Computer Science and Elect Elect failed to secure a goal against each other. In a tighter contest, the Department of Philosophy edged Microbiology (MCB) 1–0.
Meanwhile, not all teams had a reason to celebrate, as three departments from the Faculty of Technology, including Agric Engineering (AGE) who were considered a major league contender, were knocked out of the competition, marking a disappointing end to their Supremacy Cup campaign.
As the group stage concluded, departments like Animal Science, Geology, Mathematics, Philosophy, Business Administration, Computer Science, Physics, and Accounting, progressed to the quarter finals.
Since the criteria for qualification into Quarter Final is the top two teams in each group, other teams at the third and fourth position in each group, have been evicted from the competition.
It is worth mentioning that Physics and Computer Science stood out with a strong defensive record, maintaining a clean sheet all through the group stage.
With qualification now decided and the quarter finals in sight, the competition is set to reach new heights. The stakes are higher, the pressure is mounting, and only the strongest teams will survive the next phase of the Supremacy Cup. The Quarter Final will be a two leg game (home and away), with the draws expected to be out as soon as possible.
