FOSSSA, FADSA, TESA, Others Pledges Solidarity with Students'Union, amidst the Ongoing Lecture Boycott
Recall that the boycott started on Tuesday,14 April, and is expected to last through Thursday, April 16, such that no academic activities are held on campus, within the stipulated hours.
NASS OAUAs it stands, the students association of the Faculty of Law, Social Sciences, Administration, Pharmacy, and a few others, have released statements showing support for the Union's boycott and encouraging their members to follow suit.
ESAN OAUAn excerpt from the release made by the Faculty of Law reads: "the Law Students Society, Obafemi Awolowo University, hereby aligns itself unequivocally with the directive of the Great Ife Students' Union declaring a 72-hour boycott of lectures." The statement further reads; "In this light, we express our dissatisfaction with the prevailing conditions and lend our voice, in principled and constructive solidarity, to the Union's call for immediate attention and reform.
Similarly, the Faculty of Social Sciences Students Association (FOSSSA) in her communiqué, signed by the president, Akindele Oluwapelumi, and Secretary, Fasogbon Fikayomi, urged all students of the faculty to stay away from lecture halls in a peaceful and orderly manner, as they keep demanding for a more efficient and affordable transportation system. In addition, FOSSSA urged all Class Representatives in the faculty, to refrain from fixing or attending academic fixtures, asserting that the leadership of the Faculty remains committed to the welfare of her members. "We shall continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the CEC engages with the University Management" the last part of the release read.
However, in spite of the show of support and solidarity with the Students' Union by various facilities, academic activities have been reported on campus, with a prominent recent occurrence being the CHM 406 class held in the department of Chemistry where a test was held. The test was however cancelled due to the intervention of the Students' Union.
