OAU Matriculates New Students, VC Urges Students to be of Good Conducts
The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) 2025/26 Matriculation ceremony was held at the level of the Amphitheatre on Thursday, 15 January, 2026 began at exactly 10 a.m. with the procession of the matriculating Students, Parents and Guardians, the Press, Deans of the Faculties, Principal Officers, Dignitaries, and Vice-Chancellor and followed by recitation of the National and OAU anthem.
Following the Vice Chancellor’s declaration of the event’s opening, students were led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Yomi Daramola, to take the matriculation oath.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Bamire welcomed and congratulated the matriculating students, applauding their efforts and resilience.
Speaking further, the Vice-Chancellor nudged the matriculating students to adapt to the university culture. He reiterated that they should bear in mind that their admission into this institution is not just an achievement but an opportunity to transform their lives and plan towards their future. He beseeched them to let every minute of their time be spent judiciously, and avoid taking advantage of OAU as a place of unlimited freedom, “your admission is a testament to hard work and intellectual capacity.” — he added.
The Vice Chancellor also urged that the utmost expectation from the students is to sustain the image anf pedigree of the institution, warning that the management had zero tolerance for social vices, including examination malpractices, sexual harassment, drug abuse, cultism, amongst others, noting that culprits would be penalized with suspension, expulsion, and be handed to the judiciary arms of government for adequate punishment.
Concluding his speech, Prof. Bamire pledged total academic support to all students across all levels, charging them to put in the efforts required to succeed, wishing the new students a peaceful academic odyssey, as their struggles for academic excellence begin.
