Bus Scarcity Hits Road 1 Commuters Despite Students'Union Assurance

           Blessed Elemikan.

Sequel to multiple incidents of bus scarcity and immobility on campus and the Transportation Management Committee's assurance to curtail the persistence of transport challenges, a more recent incident occurred today, Monday, 12 January, 2026 with hundreds of students left stranded in an unending queue at the bus stop.

In an interview with the ICONS correspondents, some of the road 1 commuters left stranded shared their plight, with some possible solutions to the recent transport challenges ravaging OAU campus.

To  Desmond, “the situation is frustrating—the queue is so long as a result of large population. The only option I have now is to sleep on campus, because I am not sure of going home."

Another student who spoke on the basis of anonymity, while expressing frustration noted that she was currently contemplating on whether to go home or otherwise. “Looking at the situation right now, the motorcycles and the buses are not actually moving, so I don't know what decision to take concerning the situation on ground. Speaking about his preferred solution, he noted that the CNG buses promised by Sen.Oluremi Tinubu should begin operating on campus with immediate effects, more buses should be made available on campus as the population of students is now extremely large and insufficient.

Another student, Michael, lamented "I am not even excited about what I'm experiencing at the moment, this is nothing but a blow on the management and the GreatIfe Transport Committee, I always wonder why we are being treated like this after a long lecture day.”
Speaking further, Michael noted that he can't clearly think of a solution order than a more productive dialogue, which should be between the  management, transportation management committee, and the bus drivers. “I heard that the situation is being caused by the plan to implement a new transport system, hence, dialogue should be held across the board to salvage the situation effectively.”

As of press time, the queue continues to multiply, and barricades were made available at the bus-stop to prevent the students from storming the available buses in their numbers.
