Icons Member Emerged Winner of 2025 Krystal Edge Writing Competition.

   A member of the ICONS Organization, Ogunniyi Ezekiel, a part 2 student of Broadcast Journalism, today emerged winner of the annual essay competition organized by the Krystal Edge Group of School, Ibadan., following the strict rigorous selection process of the competition.

The annual essay competition allows participants, mostly pre-varsity and undergraduate students, to submit an original article on a certain topic, under a stipulated period. With this year's topic centered on “Causes of Mass Failure Among Nigerian Students,” Ezekiel topped the chart climbing the top position, and was presented with a cash prize of #50,000.

Reflecting on his achievement, Ezekiel explained that he saw the competition’s entry submission link via an OAU Essayists What'sApp channel, where he decided to participate.

“My entry was submitted late, it was just a few days to the deadline. I was hoping to get feedback but to no avail due to their silence. I already give up, thinking the competition has been wrapped up. Surprisingly, I received a congratulatory mail as the winner of the competition.”—He added.


While addressing the awardees, the management of the Krystal Edge Group of School commended them for the originality of their entry, noting that the organizers received about hundred entries, of which more than 70% are Artificial intelligence (AI) generated. The management further advised that writers must totally refrain from generating content with AI, in a bid to maintain their integrity and build trust with their audience.  

In his words of advice, the prize-winning writer charged writers to not get weary as to writing and submitting entries for competition and awards, noting how it would pay off in the long run.

"Help Save Regina": Department of English Seeks Financial Support For Regina In Need of a Kidney Transplant

By Taiwo Oyedeji  Regina Abosede Babalola, a first-year student from the Department of English at OAU, has recently been diagnosed with a severe kidney disease. Her condition has been described as critical, and she is currently admitted to Purplemed Kidney Centre in Ibadan. According to a voice note Regina sent to her brother, Joel Boluwatife Babalola, on May 20, the illness began with her vision becoming blurred and difficulty seeing, which prompted her to visit the Health Centre. After a check-up conducted at the Pharmacy, it was discovered that she had high blood pressure. In an interview, Joel shared how Regina's condition has rapidly worsened since then, as she has been in and out of hospitals, including Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Ile-Ife, and is now currently admitted to Purplemed Kidney Centre in Ibadan. Gilmore, StoneCode, and PaperChaze visit Angola Hall; Gilmore Drinks Garri with Angola Residents

By Adetunji Oluwafemi  Nigerian comedian and skit maker, Muhammad Adekunle, popularly known as Gilmore, visited the Angola Hall of Residence during the evening hours of Saturday, 18th January 2025. He was spotted drinking Garri with the Chairman of the Angola Hall of Residence, Kujembola Olalekan (Ikuuboy), and other executives of the hall. The visit was a result of Markay Entertainment's OAU concert, which is currently being held at the Amphitheater. Gilmore, StoneCode and PaperChaze were the invited skit makers and artists set to perform at the concert.
