CJA 2025: ICONS Organization's Editor-in-Chief Bags Two Awards
The Editor-in-Chief of the ICONS Organization News Agency, Adetunji Oluwafemi, yesterday, bagged two awards at the seventh (7th) edition of annual Campus Journalism Awards of Youths Digest Initiative, held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Recall that Ezekiel Ogunniyi, on Sunday, 16th November, reported that the editor, following a rigorous selection process, was shortlisted as an award finalist in two of the fifteen (15) categories of the 2025 (7th edition) Youths Digest's Campus Journalism Awards, amongst several other campus journalists from over 50 universities in Nigeria.
The editor emerged the winner amongst other two finalists in the News Report Category, with his report "From 487 to 678 — the Mysterious Surge in Number of Ballot Papers Raises Doubts in Faculty of Law," thereby making him the best campus news reporter in Nigeria.
Similarly, his news report with the headline; "Inside OAU: The Dilapidated State of Sport Facilities," fetched him the first runner-up award in the Sports News category, ranking him the second best campus sports news reporter.
Following his national recognition, the Editor-in-Chief has taken to social media to celebrate his achievements, with several congratulatory messages from mentors, colleagues, and well wishers.
a picture of Oluwafemi Adetunji at the event.In a short interview with the award-winning journalist, he expressed his excitement over winning the awards, noting that the Campus Journalism Awards of the Youths Digest Initiative has always been on his heart. In his words, "this, I considered my most significant award so far as a campus journalist. I applied last year, but was neither shortlisted nor awarded. I am glad to received two awards today, to symbolise that I was awarded by youths digest in both attempts."
Speaking further, the Editor urged fellow campus journalists to refrain from giving up easily, especially when they were not shortlisted for awards, fellowships, and other journalistic opportunities. “Don't give up, just ensure you apply for every opportunity whose requirements you meet," he advised.
