Residents of Ladoke Akintola Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, have expressed relief following the installation of new toilet facilities in the hostel, an upgrade many described as long overdue.
The project forms part of ongoing efforts by the hall management to improve living conditions and address recurring complaints about poor hygiene and failing infrastructure.
For years, students have endured malfunctioning toilet systems and inadequate sanitation. The newly installed water closets have now brought a sense of comfort and optimism among residents.
Speaking with the ICONS Reporters, a resident, Esther Aduragbemi, said the new facilities were a welcome development, especially for fresh occupants. “The new water closets were necessary and will definitely make users more comfortable,” she said. Esther emphasized the need for consistent maintenance, recommending regular cleaning and steady water supply.
The General Secretary of Akintola Hall, Oyeniran Victoria, also described the renovation as timely, noting that the project was initiated by the previous hall administration. “Most toilets lacked functionality due to broken facilities. These new installations provide practical relief for residents, and we are already planning measures to ensure proper upkeep,” she added.
Similarly, the Hall Chairperson, Idowu Abefeade, expressed satisfaction with the upgrade. “I feel relieved and fulfilled with the introduction of the new toilets. Their old state had been a major issue for multiple sessions. The new facilities are more accessible, user-friendly, and students can now use them without worrying about water.”
Feedback from residents and executives reflects shared appreciation and renewed hope that the upgrade marks the beginning of more consistent, student-centered improvements RRacross the hall.
