OAU Inducts 538 Graduates Into the Teaching Profession, Dean Urges Commitment to Integrity
The Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) today held its 9th annual Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) induction ceremony for the 538 graduates of the faculty.
The induction, moderated by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarenwaju, with the invitation of the inductees and the former Deans and other dignitaries of the Faculty, to file in and make a dignified entrance into the hall.
Speaking at the event, the incumbent dean of the faculty, Prof. Adediwura encouraged the students to remain committed to excellence and uphold the values of the teaching profession.
“Teaching is a call that requires honesty and the society's strength lies with teachers, I hope this motivates you all to keep advancing in the education sector" he told the inductees.
In his keynote address, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, representing the Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) emphasized the importance of Technology in education and teachers, charging the new inductees to embrace technology in their teaching.
"Education will never disappear, it will only take a new form and technology will not replace teachers but those who use technology will replace those who do not"
Following the event, a few of the inductees spoke with the ICONS reporters, expressing their excitement on how their aspirations became reality.
"There's no other word that describes these feelings than being joyous, it is not my doings but God’s doings” —Samuel Famuyiwa told ICONS reporters.
Another inductee, Elizabeth Akande expressed excitement, "I feel so good and happy for myself on this great achievement."
A parent, Dr. (Mrs) Famuyiwa, expressed how joyous she was about her son's induction, "I'm so happy because I'm a lecturer, and seeing my son being inducted into the profession is a great joy, at least, I now have a son in my professional line. Education is a great thing because you have the knowledge and you're impacting it. It's at the core of the nation itself"—she added.
The induction ceremony featured the administration of the induction oath by Prof. Kayode, and the brief award presentation segment recognizing outstanding lecturers and professors. With the successful induction, the graduates are now officially recognized as future educators and leaders.
