The Transport Management Commission (TMC) of the Great Ife Students Union has confirmed that there will be no increase in transportation fare on campus, as students prepare for resumption tomorrow Saturday, 11th October, 2025.
In a statement released alongside the "cost-of-transport" today, the commission restated its commitment to keeping campus transportation affordable and accessible for all students. It also warned town-gbooro bus drivers and cyclists against overcharging or any form of extortion, urging students to report such cases to the commission for prompt action.
The Transport Management Commission emphasized that all drivers are to continue using the same agreed prices from the last session, adding that any change in fare will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, it is important to clarify confusion stirred up by a circulating video of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses which landed on OAU campus today, the buses are part of the federal government projects, aimed at providing cheaper and cleaner public transportation across Nigeria tertiary institutions. It is imperative for students to note that the scheme operates separately from the university’s transport system, and does not affect the campus buses transport fare, managed by the Great Ife Transport Management Committee (TMC).
Under the CNG program of President Tinubu, buses are distributed to selected institutions nationwide, to help reduce transport costs for students and staff. However, the fare (#100) charged by the CNG buses is determined by the federal government initiative itself, and has no connection or influence on the regular OAU campus transport fares.
As students return to campus, the commission encourages everyone to cooperate with drivers, follow the set fare rules, and report any irregularities.
