A final-year student of the Department of English (Literature Major), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has earned recognition from Nollywood star Femi Adebayo for her academic research centered on his film, Seven Doors.

The student, Oyindamola Ojo, gained attention after sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter) about her undergraduate project titled —“The Aesthetics of Oral Performance in Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors,”— a study which examines how the movie creatively employs Yoruba oral-traditional elements, including proverbs, chants, songs, and rituals, to enrich its narrative and sustain cultural identity.

Her post, which appealed for a retweet from the actor, caught Adebayo’s attention, as the vibrant filmmaker acknowledged her work, quoted her tweet, and personally reached out to commend her effort. “He messaged me and then quoted my post,” Oyindamola said.

According to her, “Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors is more than fiction; it’s a cultural document that educates and preserves Yoruba aesthetics. My passion for African oral literature and the impact of the movie inspired this research.” She further revealed her plans to extend the research beyond the undergraduate level, emphasizing her interest in exploring the intersection between African movies and oral literature.

Beyond the recognition, Oyindamola’s encounter with Adebayo reflects the growing connection between academia and Nollywood — a convergence that celebrates indigenous creativity and cultural identity. Her achievement also serves as an inspiration to emerging researchers and students, committed to preserving African identity through film and literary studies.
