The controversy surrounding the recently released Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Post-UTME results, has taken a deeper dimension as a number of aspirants alongside their parents, stormed the ICT center of the university, at the early hours of today, Wednesday, 10th September, 2025.
Recall that the ICONS Organization, yesterday reported the aspirants' mixed feelings towards the released result. However, beyond ICONS’ report, the results had further sparked widespread disappointment and heartbreak among many aspirants, with social media flooded by reactions of confusion, anger, and despair.
The latest development has intensified the emotional weight of the situation, raising serious concerns about the credibility of the result. During a subtle protest/confrontation of the aspirants at the ICT today, where they lamented poor results of which they said was caused by a perceived technical glitch from the OAU’s examination system, with many specifically complaining that aspirants with UTME score of 300+, has 20/40 or even less, in the OAU Post-UTME, urging the management to review their results.
Responding to this, the ICT Director, Prof. Afolabi, while addressing the aspirants, noted that he is fully aware of the irregularities and infractions that occurred during the examination. He reportedly acknowledged the challenges and criticisms faced by his office in the previous years, regarding the several cases of infractions, which he said has in turn reduced the standard of the OAU Post-UTME exercise, by the inputs of "miracle centers."
Speaking further, the Director stressed that his office will not back down in ensuring accountability and transparency, particularly for the newly released results, as every aspirant has received their well deserved scores, debunking the possibilities of technical glitches. In his words, “anybody that got withheld, go to court, if you score 20 or 32 and you are not happy with it, go to court, we have enough video evidence, some aspirants answered the whole 40 questions under 8 minutes.” — Prof Afolabi added.
Similarly, an X (formally Twitter) post that a female aspirant identified as Bridget, took her life due to the OAU Post-UTME glitch, has thrown the entire issue into a new light. Although the suicide case was never confirmed from other sources, yet students, parents, and netizen, questioned not only the fairness of the examination process, but also the psychological toll such academic exercises can have on young candidates. As the situation unfolds, there are increasing calls for the university management to issue a transparent statement and take immediate steps to address both the credibility crisis and the welfare of affected students.
As the controversy deepens, the outcome remains whether the affected candidates will indeed pursue legal actions, or that the management will provide any further clarifications, to restore trust in the system. However, as of the time of gathering this report, OAU remains steadfast in maintaining her stance to not review the released results.
