Students, especially the freshers, expressed their frustration with the use of their clearance form in place of their cards and their inability to borrow books due to the inavailability of a renewed borrower’s ticket

Tomiwa, a part four student from the Faculty of Agriculture, was shocked with the late announcement and recounted his experience with the library last session after he lost his library card. He explained, “I tried getting another library card rain semester, last session. But, I was told that I could not because the semester has finished already”
Ridwan, a part one student from the Faculty of Arts, commented on how frustrating it has been, using his clearance form to gain entrance into the library. He stated, “I do not like it, especially when I get to the library to find out that I forgot my payment slip in my hostel”

“They were not professional.” Gladys, a part 3 student, shared on her experience while trying to renew her library card. She commented on how the men meant to check the cards were rude to the students.

Library Management Explains Cause for Delay
In an interview with the Circulation Librarian, he explained that the Library management planned to begin the library registration last semester but had to suspend it when the electronic registration was introduced.

The electronic method of registration was meant to allow students complete their library registration in the comfort of their homes while avoiding the hassle and rowdiness associated with queueing for registration.

He stated, “We had a logistic issue, not from the library but from the top and we had to switch back to the normal registration.” He further explained that the computers needed for the electronic registration were made available. However, due to the logistic issue, they could not start and had to go back to the normal registration as it was almost the end of the session.

Regarding the issue of students not being able to get books from the library due to this delay, he stated that temporary registrations were made for students who needed to borrow books from the library.

He further mentioned that the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) is now available in the library for students to gain access to library books electronically.

He concluded that everything would have been perfected and the registration will commence fully next session.
