INTECU: An Explorable Option for Students Amid Rising Internet Costs

Access to affordable internet has become essential for students in an increasingly digital world. However, the rising cost of mobile data has had debilitating effects on students. INTECU, a service designed to reduce data dependency, offers a new approach to digital access for students of Obafemi Awolowo University. This report evaluates how INTECU benefits students and why it represents a smarter choice compared to conventional data plans.
  
If you recall, The Icons Organization wrote about how OAU students are adapting to the rising internet costs. With its budget-friendly pricing, and focus on both academic and personal usage, Intecu stands as a saviour in time of killing price of data.


During an interview with staff at Intecu, we gathered information on how the service can be purchased, used, and operated. According to Mr. Adeleke, "INTECU provides network access to the entire campus. Instead of using mobile data, students can access INTECU, but they will need login details, which consist of a username and password." He explained that students can subscribe to the INTECU service at the office and obtain their login details, but the service can also be purchased from the Students' Union Building (SUB).

Furthermore, Mr. Sunday, a senior colleague, provided a more detailed explanation of the pricing structure. He stated that subscriptions can be purchased for as low as ₦100, which allows usage for 24 hours, depending on how well it is managed. He clarified that students cannot buy subscriptions directly from them because INTECU is sold at a rate of ₦250,000, while the maximum amount available for personal use is ₦1,000 and the minimum is ₦100. Mr. Sunday further explained that, unlike mobile data plans which offer specific bundles (such as social media packages for YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp), INTECU is limitless and can last longer based on usage management, even though it can be accessed for as little as ₦100.

In the face of rising internet costs, students are increasingly unable to afford the data needed for consistent online learning and also found it hard to keep up to important information. INTECU offers a timely and effective solution by providing affordable, student-friendly pricing.

The debate is part of the events that have been prepared for Fresher’s Week 2024. The event experienced a slight delay, as the venue was moved from the 1000-seater to Oduduwa Hall by the order of the school management, which requested that the initial venue be vacated because the office of the Vice President, responsible for the event, failed to seek permission before using it.
