Dead Snake Found at ETF Hall Door Sparks Safety Concerns
By Adewale Adekunle
Students living in Educational Trust Fund (ETF) hall of residence were left in shock on Tuesday morning after discovering a dead snake lodged at the base of a room door. It is believed that the snake entered the building overnight but was unable to get inside because the door was locked.
The occupants expressed fear, saying that the situation could have been dangerous if the door had been left open. “We are just lucky the door was locked. If not, we could have been in serious trouble,” said one of the occupants. A 100-level student from the Faculty of Engineering also shared his experience saying, “I could not believe my eyes when I opened the door. I was so scared. What if this had happened while we were asleep with the door open or if the snake had made it inside?”
Students linked the snake’s appearance to the overgrown bushes surrounding ETF Hostel and damaged window nets in many rooms. They said the poor environmental condition makes it easy for reptiles and other dangerous animals to enter the building.
Some also pointed out that this was not the first time snakes or other creatures had been seen in the hostel. “We’ve been complaining about the torn nets and bushy surroundings for a while now, but nothing has been done,” another student added.
Although no one was hurt, students are urging hostel management and university authorities to act swiftly. They are calling for bush clearing, repairs of broken window nets, and regular maintenance to prevent future incidents.
