Students' Union Reaffirms Its Stance Against Cultism
By Kehinde Ayodele
The Great Ife Students' Union issued a release on Sunday, January 26, 2025, addressing concerns about cult-like activities observed on campus and outlining the Union's firm stance against cultism.
The Union expressed concern regarding recent cult-like movements and activities by certain individuals on the OAU campus. It stated its zero-tolerance policy against cultism and related activities. The press release emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifices of George Iwilade (Afrika) and the OAU 5—individuals who stood against cultism—and ensuring that their legacy is upheld. The Student Union reminded students of the campus's long-standing reputation as a cultism-free environment and affirmed its dedication to preserving this positive image.
The Union proposed measures to address the issue of cultism at Great Ife. They encouraged students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities associated with cult-like practices. Additionally, the Union emphasized that anyone involved in cultism, regardless of their status as a student or non-student, would face legal consequences.
The press release concluded with a message of unity and strength, emphasizing that collective action is crucial in upholding the values of the institution and the Union. The statement "NO TO CULTISM!" showed the Union's strong stance.
This press release begs the question: Has cultism now returned to our once cult-free campus? This is a question that requires urgent attention and collective action from the entire OAU community.
