"We have embarked on a number of reforms to further make the agency work better."- TETFund Executive Secretary.
Mr. Sunny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, on Sunday, May 25, commended TETFund's vital role in supporting tertiary institutions and emphasized the need to prevent corruption and mismanagement.
He implemented reforms to enhance the agency's effectiveness and ensure the fulfillment of its responsibilities in Nigeria. Echono made these remarks when he received an award for "Outstanding Public Servant of the Year" from Champion Newspapers Limited.
He acknowledged the reforms may not be welcomed by all but he stressed the importance of focus in serving the nation's educational needs despite ensuing challenges.
He said, ” We are glad that testimonies from beneficiaries – schools and individuals, are positive and encouraging. However, because it is an agency that is known to be achieving a lot, and one that is responding to things in positive manner, we attract the attention of a lot of people."
He mentioned that receiving the award from the newspaper would motivate him and his team to work even harder and achieve more success at the agency.
In regards of concerns about the agency feeling overwhelmed by the growing number of institutions it serves, Echono expressed confidence in TETFund's ability to handle the situation. He acknowledged the establishment of more public higher institutions but assured that they have a system in place to manage them effectively. Echono emphasized that they distribute their support among universities if more than one exists in a state, ensuring equal attention and care for each institution.
Moreover, he reassured that projects initiated by the fund would be completed without abandonment, emphasizing their commitment to seeing them through.
