The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a decisive step in addressing corruption in Nigeria by reopening several cases of alleged fraud and money laundering involving former governors and ministers. The total amount under scrutiny exceeds ₦853.8 Billion.

According to reports from PUNCH, the high-profile cases, including figures like Fayose, Kwankwaso, and Lamido, have an estimated value of not less than ₦772.2 Billion. The anti-graft agency is actively investigating an additional ₦81.6 Billion linked to alleged looting in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Further revelations indicate that an additional ₦2.2 Billion was allegedly laundered through fund diversion and misappropriation, orchestrated by figures such as former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, late media personality Raymond Dokpesi, and former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa.

The EFCC emphasized that the laundered funds were intended for arms procurement in support of the fight against terrorism. Earlier arrests were made, including Dokpesi, Bafarawa, and others indicted by a committee investigating arms procurement during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The list of individuals facing renewed investigations includes former Ekiti State governors Kayode Fayemi and Ayo Fayose, former Enugu State governors Chimaroke Nnamani and Sullivan Chime, as well as other prominent figures such as Abdullahi Adamu, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Odili, Theodore Orji, Danjuma Goje, Aliyu Wamako, Timipre Sylva, and Sule Lamido.

Sources report that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede is personally overseeing the review of all cases, ensuring a fair investigation without prejudice to the status of the suspects.
