LABOUR PARTY DEMANDS CANCELLATION OF IMO STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS

 

The Labour Party candidate for the Imo state gubernatorial elections, Senator Athan Achonu, has called for a cancellation of the results over alleged irregularities at some polling units. Achonu made the call while speaking to news reporters at his hometown, Umulumo, in Ehime Mbano council area of Imo, on Saturday, November 11.


He alleged that agents of his party returned with disturbing reports of hijacking of ballot boxes and other electoral materials as well as vote buying. The elections, which ended on Saturday, declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress winner with over 540,000 votes.


Addressing reporters likewise, the LP deputy governorship candidate, Hon Tony Nwulu, said, “We want a total cancellation of the election. There was no election in Imo State, but a siege on Imo people with the connivance of security agencies."


INEC’s Head of Voter Education, Mrs Emmanuella Opara, however said that the Commission was yet to receive an official report on the alleged irregularities.
