16 UNICAL STUDENTS HOSPITALIZED DUE TO STAMPEDE.

Saturday, the 12th of November 2023, is a day the students of Unicalabar will not be quick to forget. 

About 16 students who had exams to sit for that morning unfortunately got hospitalized as a result of a stampede. 

The stampede occurred as a result of their inability to secure seats at the examination venue.



According to an eye witness, Mrs Bisong, she stated that the unfortunate incident was as a result of a number of students struggling to gain access into the hall through the small door. She added  that the examination was a general course, GSS which all 100 level students were required to take.


Reports gathered from a student who will like to remain anonymous said, "the examination was supposed to take place in batches but due to miscommunication, there was confusion in the hall.


All efforts to get the school's management statement proved abortive as the telephone number of the School's PRO, Mr Eyo Effiong, was unreachable.


As of the time of writing this report, no official statement has been released by the university authority.

The debate is part of the events that have been prepared for Fresher’s Week 2024. The event experienced a slight delay, as the venue was moved from the 1000-seater to Oduduwa Hall by the order of the school management, which requested that the initial venue be vacated because the office of the Vice President, responsible for the event, failed to seek permission before using it.
