Silenced by UTME: The Heartbreaking Stories of Struggling Candidates

Every year, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducts the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. However, some candidates are left frustrated and demoralized due to issues they encounter during the examination.
System malfunctions, ineffective facilities at exam centers, and other factors have left many candidates unable to complete their exams, with some even losing their results entirely. Officials in charge of the centers often claim there is nothing they can do, leaving affected candidates feeling lost and helpless.
One such candidate is Akinlade Oluwadunsin, who had prepared for the exam for months, only to have her system malfunction and ultimately lose her chance to complete the exam. Another candidate, Okoro Chukwuemeka Favour, faced a similar situation and was even told that his exam had been submitted despite being unable to complete it.
These are just a few examples of the many cases of affected candidates who are left to bear the consequences of circumstances beyond their control. It is not their fault, and they should not have to wait another year to retake the exam.
JAMB must take action to address these issues and prevent them from happening in the future. The affected candidates deserve a fair chance to pursue their educational goals without the added stress and disappointment caused by exam malfunctions and inadequate facilities. Let's hope that the voices of these unheard candidates will be heard and that necessary changes will be made.
It's so disheartening to hear stories like this, candidates not being able to complete their exams and JAMB not doing anything about it. The fault is actually coming from the center. The center not being accountable. Such occurrences like this must not repeat itself again. Dreams are getting quenched!
