As the end of his presidency draws near, President Buhari took the bold step to apologize to the nation on Friday, in Abuja. He thanked Nigerians for their tolerance during his eight-year regime.

While the government was initially celebrated at its onset, it later became one of the most criticized in Nigeria and the world. From the controversial closure of surrounding borders to the introduction of new naira notes that were met with resistance, the government faced its fair share of criticisms.

One of President Buhari's strongest critics, Omoyele Sowore, who was arrested several times by the DSS, took to Twitter to voice his opinion. He said, "Your tenure and the souls you ruined, lives you wasted, opportunities you crushed will continue to haunt you till the end of time."

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, will take over the reins of power as the new President on May 29, 2023.
