From the tragic death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni to the shocking lynching of Deborah Yakubu, these five criminal cases have captured the attention of the public in Nigeria. Despite the media coverage and outcry from the victims' families, justice has yet to be served in these cases.

THE DEATH OF SYLVESTER OROMONI

In November 2021, Sylvester Oromoni, a student at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, was allegedly attacked by senior students for refusing to join a cult. The 12-year-old boy died from his injuries, and despite autopsies, tests, and social media attention, no one has been held accountable for his death. The victim's loved ones continue to seek justice for Sylvester.

THE DEATH OF WHITNEY ADENIRAN

Another tragic case is that of Whitney Adeniran, who died of electrocution during the inter-house sports competition at Chrisland School, Lagos State, in February 2023. Whitney's mother, Blessing Adeniran, has called for an investigation into the incident, which has yet to be addressed. The school's activities have continued, as if nothing ever happened.

HILTON HOTEL MURDER CASE

In November 2021, Timothy Adegoke, a master's student at Obafemi Awolowo University, was allegedly murdered by hotelier Ramon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotels, Ile-Ife. Despite six defendants standing trial, including the hotel manager and workers on duty, justice has yet to be served on the main culprit. The workers remain detained in prison.

THE LYNCHING OF DEBORAH YAKUBU

The lynching of Deborah Samuel Yakubu on May 12, 2022, sparked outrage in Nigeria. The 200-level Christian college student was killed by a mob of Muslim students in Sokoto after being accused of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad. The mob, led by two suspects, was defended by a legal team of 34 lawyers. The victim's family and supporters are calling for justice to be served.

THE END SARZ PROTEST MASSACRE

Lastly, the End SARS protest massacre at Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020, saw the deaths of 51 civilians, 11 policemen, and 7 soldiers. The question remains, "Who gave the order?" Despite the public outcry and calls for accountability, little change has been seen in the aftermath of this tragic event.

These criminal cases have been swept under the carpet for far too long. It's time for justice to be served, and for those responsible to be held accountable for their actions.
