On March 9th, 2023, in honour of International Women's Day, the NGO, Women Inspiration Development Centre (WIDC) hosted a digital training session for community female teachers in Ile-Ife and the surrounding areas with the aim to end violence against girls and women. This event, held at OAU Progressive Hall had attendees from various schools in Ile-Ife, Ilesa, and Osogbo, focused on the theme "DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality."

During her opening speech, the convener, Mrs Busayo Obisakin, highlighted her concern about the low representation and involvement of women in the technological space worldwide. Mrs. Obisakin stated that women only makeup 22% of global representation and passionately expressed her desire to see that number increase to at least 50%.

Teachers were sensitized to the numerous advantages of the internet, particularly the online platform known as World Pulse. This platform serves as a forum for women from more than 190 countries to share their stories and connect with other women worldwide. World Pulse is committed to providing a voice to millions of women, and every story deserves to be told. It allows women to express themselves from the comfort of their homes, ensuring that everyone is heard.

Assisted by the volunteers, all the teachers successfully installed the World Pulse application from Playstore for Android users and Applestore for iPhone users, to join the World Pulse platform. Mrs. Obisakin took the responsibility of guiding them through the registration process, providing a detailed walkthrough of the step-by-step procedures involved, and helping them share their stories on the platform.

The training session was an essential component of the event, and it was conducted online by Kirthi Jayakumar, a representative from World Pulse. She informed the teachers about the significance of women sharing their stories, which could enlighten, empower, validate, foster sisterhood, or encourage other women. Furthermore, she emphasized that ideas, innovative solutions to problems, and opinions on situations could be discussed also on the platform. She elaborated on the benefits of sharing one's story and also guided how to make an informed decision about whether to share it or not, using numerous examples and explanations.

The event featured an interactive session that addressed matters of domestic violence and rape, with several issues discussed. The convener of the event promised the tutors that her organization would address these concerns and take necessary actions. She also encouraged the teachers to become advocates against rape, genital mutilation, domestic violence, and other inappropriate behaviour towards both males and females. Furthermore, she urged them to spread the word about the VAPP law (Violence Against Person Prohibition) and act as ambassadors in their respective schools.

During the discussion, certain educators addressed the significance of safeguarding whistle-blowers, noting that several individuals were willing to come forward but required the appropriate protection. Additionally, others highlighted how victims of violation often felt reluctant to speak out due to fear of victimization and the inability to obtain justice. To allay these concerns, the convener provided reassurance that the organization would take measures to adequately protect both whistle-blowers and victims.

Also, certificates were presented to attendees, and an incidence form was distributed. The following hotlines were given for reporting violation cases: 07025097030 - Precious; 08089942005- Favour; 08174499560 - Okiki.

As the event drew to a close, teachers made their way to their respective destinations with beaming smiles, after posing for photographs and exchanging pleasantries.
